This committee is involved with efforts to preserve the quality of life for residents as a
result of the increasing traffic due to Charleston's growth.  This committee is currently
exploring efforts related to parking on St. Phillip street and are involved in an effort to
make the intersection of Bogard and Rutledge safe for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Main Features of the New Spring-Cannon Corridor Plan
As detailed on the City’s Website

  • Change Spring and Cannon streets to two-way traffic from one-way while losing minimal
parking places.  We’ve been told approximately 28 spaces will be lost.

  • Improve sidewalks and Spring and Cannon Streets with regard to pedestrian traffic

  • Install more attractive traffic signals (Similar to King and Meeting St)

  • Install pedestrian crosswalks and lights at intersections

  • Plant new trees

  • Reduce the flow and speed of commuter traffic into our neighborhood, which has been
    proven to improve safety

  • Create pedestrian walkways to connect Cannon and Spring Streets with Lockwood Drive
and Brittlebank Park.  This may come later.  We’ll find out at the City’s presentation on Feb
    26th.

  • Create new green space and park space in between the two lanes of the cross-town near
the Ashley River Bridge.  This may come later.  We’ll find out at the City’s presentation on
    Feb 26th.
